Deja Vu

The wind began to blow is such the same way on Sunday May 22nd as it did that infamous Sunday of just a few weeks ago on April 10th.  Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued earlier in the day, extending throughout the evening.  It was such a beautiful sunny, warm day, who could imagine what God would bring next. 

Could it be Deja Vu?

I spent the morning at church with my mother, and afterwards went to lunch.  Upon returning to her home in Wild Rose, the sky began to turn an ominous green.  The radar on the television showed a mighty storm-front moving though the area in the direction of Poy Sippi, West Bloomfield, over Lake Poygan with Boom Bay as its target.  The same path as the tornado took last April which ripped over my home and neighbor's.  My heart literally sank when anxiousness rolled over my senses; fear began to creep in.  I began to pray. 

My mother and I intently watched the radar as the storm moved over her house, picking up speed, spinning and churning its way over Lake Poygan.  The weathermen reporting hail, 4 inches in diameter, hurdling to the ground, explaining that this hail would pummel and destroy any vehicle beneath it; let alone a person or animal.  Cyclonic activity is evident on the radar… Could two tornados really hit the same area within two months time? 

The storm moved over the lake and across Boom Bay where my home is.  What would I see upon returning home?  What would I find?  Would the remaining trees in  my yard be standing?  Would my Grandfather's truck, one of his prized possessions which was left to me upon his death, be destroyed?  After the previous tornado dropped a tree on it, anything is possible.  I prayed that God would give me strength to preserver through what ever it was that I would find.

Nearly two hours after the storm passed I arrived home… to a home still standing.  Trees still firmly rooted.  My property maimed, but not shaken. 

Fresh green leaves from my maple trees littered the ground and the walls of my house.  My next-door neighbor, Jeremy, confirmed the reports of softball sized hail. 

Again, I arrived home after nearly two hours had passed since the storm moved through.  The temperature was over 70 degrees that day, yet hail, many pieces being the size of my fist, lay scattered over my yard. 

God is good.  He protected us from the fury of the April 10th tornado, and He protected yet again. 

Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever.  Amen

'10 Holiday Gift Giving List :: #6

The nature lover in me comes out with my #6 pick for the la Naváa '10 Holiday Gift Giving List.  Growing up in rural Wisconsin, I've become accoustomed to the lush green beauty that engulfs the area during the summer.  But since we just had a blizzard this weekend, over a foot of snow fell, I find myself missing summer's rich foliage...

From fun in the sun, to back to business

Back in from a great vacation with my great boyfriend, Adrian.  While the forecast called for rain, we fared well! Sun and cool temperatures made our little trip ideal for biking, hiking and camp fires- oh my!  Still a bit too early to go swimming here in Wisconsin.  Next time though; we will be back!

Now that I'm home, and somewhat unpacked, I cannot wait to return to my projects!  I've been re-inspired and plan on spending the next few days working diligently on the "special project" I referenced in an earlier blog.

V*A*C*A*T*I*O*N

Oh-so close to the summer vacation!  Time is a-ticking!  I will be heading to Devil's Lake State Park on Sunday.  I've found this little Wisconsin gem to be my fav so far.  Did you know that it's one of Wisconsin's oldest state parks?  Last year I went on a number of camping excursions with my boyfriend.  We both agree, Devil's Lake is our #1.

It is currently raining at the moment, so I'm hoping for the best when we actually arrive.  Please hold the rain until the tent is up!

A lot of hiking we did last year; which was a blast!  It was later summer, so the temperature was around the 80 degree mark.

We had a beautiful lake to cool down in after a long day hike.

This year we are bringing our bikes.  22 miles of trails should keep us busy; rain or shine!

God's beautiful bounty!  Cannot wait!  :)

Artisan @ Heart

I've always loved making things, even as a little girl. This was very different from my mother, however. My mom was always the one to buy, not make, which is just fine with me though. Obviously, it takes both to make the world go 'round! :)

My mother's life long bff, Barb, is a very talented crafter. She would make the cutest little sewed figurines and items. She would give them as gifts to my mother (pumpkins, Christmas elves, little kitties, embroidery, tiny dolls, the list goes on). I remember always being awed by them, wishing I could make something so cool myself. Barb's daughter, Brianna, and I would joke that we should switch moms every once in a while. Brianna like my mother, preferred not to be one making these neat little novelties.


Last time my mom and I ventured to Wauwatosa to visit Barb, I saw the cutest little merry men sitting atop a door frame in her house.


Brianna, does your mom know about Etsy? She would be a real hit! I'm sure of it!

While I wish I had learned to sew like Barb, a dear friend of mine taught me how to bead. I adore making jewelry. It's a thrill to work with the different types of gems and pearls that were created by nature. And all the vibrant lamp-work beads, and intricate silver pendants created by my fellow artisans. Ahh, if only I had such talent... and time!

Working with clay has always been a life long dream for me. Throwing a beautifully shaped vase or container on the wheel, or molding an ornate hand-formed bead to use as a focal piece of an eye catching necklace would really be a dream come true. Perhaps someday; I'm always aspiring for more.

But in the meantime I'm pretty keen on piecing together necklaces into works of art! ;)
