March’s Giveaway: $$ Gift Certificate $$

Now that February’s Personalized Gift Box Giveaway has come and gone (Congrats to Jen P!), it's time to move into March's contest.

We are now a week into March and I’m happy to report that some of the snow around here in Wisconsin has begun to melt! Over the weekend, I spotted a dozen Sandhill Cranes poking through a neighboring farmer’s field- a sure sign spring must be on its way!

Easter is coming soon, and Mother’s Day will soon follow. Have you thought about a Mother’s day gift yet? Since jewelry can be a very personal thing, la Naváa will be introducing Gift Certificates! They are perfect for those who are particular, (I’m one those- my fiancée will agree) and great as a last minute add-on gift.

To kick-off la Naváa Gift Certificates, I’m giving away a $15 Gift Certificate for la Naváa’s two shops on Etsy:

The Grandiose Tiger Eye Gem Collection

Tiger Eye is a well loved gemstone by many.  Its colors are extremely versatile and the stone itself is very strong and dense.

The vertical luminescent yellow and brown alternating bands that resemble that of a tiger give this Quartz stone the name: Tiger Eye.

I recently put together a Tiger Eye collection called Tigre d’olive. I came across the most beautiful Tiger Eye Gemstones through a friend of my mother’s. This truly grandiose assortment gems consisted of the most extravagant faceted nuggets and colossally lustrous Tiger Eye beads I’ve ever seen!

Being so thrilled to work with them, I instantly began pairing them with beads and baubles. I came up with this Feline Fatal combination that compliments each other greatly.

The Tigre d’olive line consists of a dynamic combination of Tiger Eye Gems and exquisite Cats Eye beads. I find it interesting that Roman solders used to wear Tiger Eye as protection when in battle believing that it was "all seeing." I suppose this intermingled duo I created would have been sought after by the greatest of kingdoms... :)

The strong and striking Tigre d’olive collection is not for the faint of heart!

Fabulous in February

The month of February is fabulous with colors of royalty: Amethyst

A popular gemstone, Amethyst is a purple hued Quartz mineral.

The unique and intense color of purple has been known to adorn nobility; early monarchs were enthralled with Amethyst due to this.  Since purple dyes were scarce and pricey back in the day, Purple was reserved for those who could afford such luxuries (ie, Royalty).  Naturally occurring Amethyst gems were used to in the crowns, scepters and jewelry of Kings and Queens.

Here are some of my lovely creations crafted with February's finest:

Garnet in Season

Something new this year from la Naváa is Birthstone jewelry.

January’s birthstone is the Garnet (Garnet also designated for the 2nd and 6th wedding anniversary). Some believe the word Garnet originated with the Latin granatum malum which means pomegranate. Fitting, huh?

While Garnets can be found in an array of colors, I decided to stay customary with my gem choices for my January Birthstone Line.

To open the line, I continued my Crandipity Collection. In addition to the original Crandipity Drop Necklace featuring cascading Garnet coins, I created a Signature piece. This will be a design style that you will see from la Naváa again in the future with other gems and crystals.

In addition to the Signature Crandipity Necklace, I created a Traditional look consisting of single 10mm wire-wrapped on Sterling Silver Figure Eight chain.

Due to their popularity, I also re-created the Crandipity Drop Earrings:

I’ve created yet another design with Garnet Gems to share with you. The second collection is a combination of January’s Garnet and Valentine’s Day. Red and hearts always seem to look so good together.

The Valentina Necklace, ending with yes, an “A” to add a hint of femininity, was created using hand-cut Garnet Gems in 3-4mm in size. You can see that hand-cut gems are slightly irregular adding a bit of intrigue.
To accompany the Garnet stones, I used beautiful Iceflake Quartz Crystals, appropriate for the winter season I thought.

The open-heart pewter pendant is a-symmetrical in style, which is why I decided to continue the irregular theme by tilting the bead placement; it adds to the dramatic affect this delicate necklace.
Accompanying the Valentina Necklace is Valentina earrings in both Garnet and Iceflake Quartz Crystals. The Garnet style, named for its look, Raspberry, consists of cascading Garnets clusters.

Valentina Ice Earrings have a similar look:

You will soon begin to see my shop populating with these Garnet designs for January.

With next month being February, perhaps a few Amethyst designs will soon follow!

A very happy new year to you!

Into a New Year

'Tis a new year full of possibilities.  2010 was a good year.  It was a year of learning among other things for me.  I believe I am poised well to start off this 2011.

This morning I awoke to an array of harmonized handmade.  Amy Busch aka Sunshine Girl created this compilation on Etsy:

Amy's own one of a kind accessories and decorations made of felt are available in her shop: Soleil Girl

Featured alongside the Hope Keepsake Gift Box from la Naváa are peacefully hued creations from fellow artisans on Etsy.

The romantic Baby Blue Lace Cuffs (on sale now) were made by Mariana and Paula, of Branda.  Incredibly enough, Branda's creations are made "by eye" instead of patterns.  This technique was taught to Mariana and Paula by their grandmother when they were children.  Quite remarkable I'd say.

I'd also like to say that quite a remarkable year is ahead, hopefully for all.  As for la Naváa, many new things coming, new shops and promotions.  This week I'll be announcing January's contest... yes, monthly contests for 2011!

And... birthstone jewelry!  I have a number of Garnet styles currently on my creation table.

I wish everyone joy in the new year.  May many new and wonderful things come.

The Untitled

Last summer I came across some super fun swirly round beads (even blogged about them), and created an eye-catching necklace.  A good friend of mine snatched it up before I could even name it.

I had a few of the same beads still, and loved it so much I created a new Untitled Necklace quite similar to the first.  Coming soon to my Etsy shop.

And there was la Naváa

Hello my dear reader,

I'm excited to share my journey with you. I've never been a blogger before, so I am oh-so new to this. Please hang with me though, I'm a quick study.

That's actually how I began making jewelry; quickly. I don't have years invested like some, but I can tell you I like it just as much as them, and perhaps sometimes more. ;)

I've always been fairly artistic and creative, just never really with an outlet. My friend introduced me to jewelry, and I thank her for it. I've found my vice. The methodical rhythm one gets into when stringing a necklace or wrapping wire is something that I find very soothing. And then, when it's all done, the excitement is nearly overwhelming. After sometimes hours of thought and care and meticulous work, I take a look at this masterpiece I, yes I just created... yeah, great fun. Like I said, it's a wonderful outlet for me. In my opinion, everything should have an outlet of some kind. One that actually allows them to be productive. One where they can enjoy the fruits of their labor. Highly recommended by me.

So I should tell you how la Naváa came about. Being a spiritually centered person, I wanted to tie my art back to the being that allowed me to create it; my creator.

la Naváa to me means the beautiful. My inspiration was derived from an Aramaic translation of the word "nava," meaning beautiful. Upon adding my own little sense of creativity, la Naváa was born.

It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you: la Naváa.

My sincerest appreciation to you for allowing part of my world to become part of yours.
